Australia faces significant nutrition challenges. Dietary intake remains well below national recommendations, while affordability, access, food literacy and the environments in which people live, learn and work all influence food choices.
Our report, Nutrition in Australia: The challenges, evidence and opportunities ahead, brings together current evidence on nutrition in Australia, the factors shaping food choices and the opportunities to strengthen nutrition across the life course.
The report also draws on National Nutrition Foundation’s experience delivering practical nutrition initiatives to explore how evidence and policy can be translated into action across real-world settings.

Our advocacy work builds on decades of experience supporting nutrition initiatives across Australia.
We contribute to policy and public health discussions by sharing evidence, responding to consultations, working with governments and sector partners, and highlighting practical approaches that can improve food environments and food literacy.
Effective nutrition policy is only part of the picture. Achieving change also requires the capability, resources and practical support to put evidence into practice.
Through programs including freshSNAP, the Healthy Eating Advisory Service and FoodChecker, National Nutrition Foundation has experience supporting nutrition initiatives across schools, early childhood services, health services and other settings.
These experiences provide valuable insights into the opportunities and practical challenges involved in turning nutrition guidance into action.
Improving nutrition requires collaboration across government, research, public health, community organisations and other sectors.
We welcome opportunities to contribute evidence, practical implementation experience and nutrition expertise to policy discussions, consultations, partnerships and other initiatives.
