Public health and consumer organisations call for FSANZ Act reforms.

Calling for food regulation that puts public health and consumer interests first.

n 2021, National Nutrition Foundation, credited as Nutrition Australia at the time, joined public health and consumer organisations across Australia and New Zealand in calling for reform of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991.

As part of this work, the coalition sent a joint letter to Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck, Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care Services, Minister for Sport, and Chair of the Food Ministers Meeting, raising concerns about the proposed reforms and calling for the protection of public health and safety to remain central to the Act.

The organisations also called for meaningful public health and consumer involvement in the reform process, appropriate resourcing of FSANZ and a regulatory system that can effectively respond to diet-related public health challenges.
