Calling for a Review of Alcohol Nutrition Claims.

Calling for stronger safeguards around sugar and carbohydrate claims on alcoholic beverages.

In May 2025, National Nutrition Foundation joined leading public health and consumer organisations across Australia and New Zealand in an open letter to the Food Ministers’ Meeting following a Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) decision on sugar and carbohydrate claims on alcoholic beverages.

The letter called on Food Ministers to request a review of the decision, citing evidence that nutrition claims can influence how consumers perceive the healthiness, energy content and potential harms of alcoholic products.

The campaign advocated for alcohol labelling and marketing standards that support informed choices and prioritise public health.
