In 2022, National Nutrition Foundation, credited as Nutrition Australia at the time, worked with AUSVEG and other members of the Fruit & Vegetable Consortium to advocate for a coordinated national approach to increasing vegetable consumption. Nutrition Australia had helped establish and lead the Consortium alongside partners from health, research, industry and government.
The Consortium launched Shifting the dial on vegetable consumption: Rebuilding healthy families in a COVID-19 affected and disrupted Australia, a report prepared by KPMG examining the barriers to vegetable consumption and opportunities to drive sustained behaviour change. It recommended a national strategy to increase vegetable consumption, stronger cross-sector coordination and action addressing barriers such as affordability.
The work helped lay the foundations for subsequent national action to increase vegetable consumption, including the development of the Plus One Serve strategy.
