The Challenge

Hort Innovation, the Almond Board of Australia, and National Nutrition Foundation identified an opportunity to enhance health professionals’ understanding of the benefits of daily almond consumption. The three-year project elevated awareness among health professionals, specifically targeting general practitioners, practice nurses, dietitians and nutritionists who play a crucial role in influencing the health of the Australian population through nutritional information and support.

The solution

The collaborative project worked with leading industry and health professionals to translate research into practical resources and deliver it to the key target audience.

  • Engagement with key stakeholders including health professionals to understand needs and concerns.
  • Strategic communications and marketing plan: Strategic activities to achieve maximum audience reach and impact.
  • Execution of project plan to all audiences using variety platforms and channels:
    • Five health professional conferences.
    • Twelve informational factsheets and six digital clips.
    • Two webinars tailored for health professionals.
    • Two-day orchard tour event for influential health professionals.
    • Promoting key messages and resources through social media channels.
  • Translate research into practical resources for consumers and health professionals, including the various health benefits of almond consumption, such as heart health, diabetes management, weight control, gut health, and mood and cognition.
  • Evaluation and results: A formative and summative evaluation process utilised surveys at different stages, focusing on effectiveness, relevance, appropriateness, and efficiency.

health professionals surveyed reported a higher likelihood of recommending almonds to patients and clients as part of a healthy diet. The majority also indicated an increase in their knowledge of almonds’ health benefits after engaging with the project’s resources and activities.
