Designed for those who influence children’s vegetable intake

  • Long day care

  • Food industry and vegetable growers

  • Outside school hours care and schools

  • Research institutes

  • Government, community and public health workers

The Challenge

Results from consecutive Australian Health Surveys show children are not consuming enough vegetables. In fact, only 4.6% of children aged 2-17 years of age eat the recommended amount.

Establishing healthy eating patterns as a child is essential to forming good dietary habits that help prevent negative health outcomes during childhood and later in life.

VegKIT aims to increase the vegetable intake of Australian children with a community-minded approach.

The Solution

Our credible expertise translated the science of nutrition and the latest data into user-friendly, engaging resources that are easily accessible to the many sectors that can influence children’s vegetable intake. We worked closely with all settings and stakeholders including government, growers, health professionals and those working with children to inform the resources, marketing strategy, website and program registry.

  • Innovative resource development: Scientifically-backed resources, briefing documents, videos, posters, infographics and guidelines. These statements are crafted to encourage young children to enjoy vegetables.
  • Strategic development: Through strategic campaigns and presentations, VegKIT has effectively extended its influence and facilitated widespread dissemination of its resources and findings.
  • Website and digital outreach: The VegKIT website serves as the central hub for the project. Catering to a broad audience, including researchers, health practitioners, policymakers, and food industry professionals.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Engagement of all stakeholders was a critical component of the project. This included influential presentations to national health departments, collaborations with state-based nutritionists and pivotal engagement with AUSVEG to further reach the vegetable industry’s major stakeholders.
